About Jesmari

I began to form my work ethic at a young age, spending time after school and on the weekends practicing in pursuit of the ultimate goal: to be able to compete in college basketball. I started playing rec ball when I was 6 years old, then tried out for the travel and middle school teams. From that moment I knew I wanted to get better at basketball. In 7th grade, I started playing with my AAU team DTX. Coach Taylor believes in playing up, so from the age of 12, I was playing girls twice my size, with much more experience. Coach has encouraged me to be a leader on and off the court. I love being able to cheer on my teammates because I believe that only through a team mentality can we achieve our potential.

During the 2020-2021 season, I enrolled at the Wooster School, a private school in CT, as a 9th grader. I made varsity as a shooting guard. Unfortunately, the pandemic shortened the season, but I did my best to prove myself as a hard worker, strong leader, and supportive teammate on the Wooster girls' basketball team. After the varsity season, Coach Taylor put me on both the DTX girls' team, as well as one of the boy's teams. Playing with and against the boys improved my game immensely and gave me more self-confidence as a player.

In my sophomore year, I started on my varsity team as a small forward and shooting guard and was pulled up to the 17U national AAU team for DTX basketball.  The truth is, I have had to fight to achieve every goal I have set for myself. At 5'6",  I have to work harder than everyone else to succeed in this game.  Right now I am working on having more speed, better footwork, consistent shooting, and better ball handling. My greatest strengths are my work ethic, my toughness under the basket, my leadership skills, and my basketball IQ.  In addition, I have consistently led my teams in assists throughout my career as I am an unselfish player with a strong team mentality.
